AIMS Certificate of Advanced Study (ACAS) Overview
Think about this, as of December 31, 2010, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) totals of all the countries in the world was the equivalent of $74 trillion dollars. This volume is created in hundreds of countries by tens of thousands of firms working with millions of people. All of it managed somehow in some way by some type of person acting as, yes, a manager. The field of management is the largest single field in the world, and the practice of management touches everyone in every walk of life, from their daily routine to global corporate finance, and all points in-between. At some level we are all managers of something.
However, there is very little management training that focuses on the field as a science compared to an art or a humanistic interest. Think about your daily routine, your place of employment, the managers you work for and the people that you work with. Today any given manager will potentially make a different decision, even given the same context and the same inputs.
AIMS was established to move the field of management from an art to a science, where well trained managers, given the same goals and same data, will make the same correct decision. Further, we envision a world where trained managers have the tools at their fingertips to apply to their decisions to ensure that they are making not just good decisions, but the right decisions, in a systematic way that can be validated by others through a scientific process, not a gut feel or some other method.
We recognize that there is both a Human side to management, and a Scientific side. Our contention is that while the Human side should not be discounted, there currently exists plenty of material and training concerning humanistic approaches. Further, the Human side to business focuses on interpersonal and socio-political viewpoints, or in other words how to make people feel okay about their environment, relationships, and decisions. AIMS focuses on the decision making process itself, and turning inputs into the correct outputs. We believe that if everyone is given the same information, and has the tools to understand how to make the right decisions, then reasonable like-minded people will reach the same logical conclusions. This simplifies the need for humanistic management as there is less confusion and more general buyin and understanding why the management decisions are what they are.
AIMS offers a comprehensive programs for management practitioners of all education and skill levels. Our credentials are flexible, up-to-date, encourage professional growth, and cover a wide-array of business focused areas.
